Herbert Kupferberg
Born in New York City, Herbert Kupferberg (1918-2001) earned master's degrees in English and journalism from Columbia University. For more than twenty years, he was an editor and critic for the New York Herald Tribune. After its demise in 1966, he joined Parade. He was music critic for the National Observer, advisory editor of Dance News and he wrote reviews for The Atlantic. His books include Those Fabulous Philadelphians, a history of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and The Mendelssohns: Three Generations of Genius.
